In the quiet town of Morrisville, North Carolina, where neighbors greet each other warmly and the streets are often filled with the laughter of children, an unthinkable tragedy has shaken the community to its core.
Just days before Christmas, on December 20, 2023, a mother called 911 with a chilling report—her son was unresponsive.
When authorities arrived, they found not a sick child in need of help, but the lifeless body of a young boy in a state of advanced decomposition. Officers reported finding a home with virtually no edible food and a child whose emaciated condition showed clear signs of prolonged starvation.
The child, just 9 years old, appeared so severely malnourished that one investigator described it as “one of the worst cases of neglect I’ve seen in my career.” His body was in such an advanced state of decomposition that the medical examiner initially struggled to determine the exact cause of death.
His name was Aarav (name changed to protect his identity), a bright, sweet soul born on September 8, 2014. He loved simple joys—crisp parathas, special treats from KFC, and cuddling with the family dog, Gucci.
Neighbors remember his smile and presence with great fondness. He was, as one person described, “a ray of sunshine.” And now, he is gone.
His mother, Priyanka Tiwari, 33, has been charged with first-degree murder and felony child abuse. She remains in custody without bail.
Her husband, Shashikant Tiwari, 40, was charged in February 2024 with felony child abuse for allegedly failing to remove Aarav from the home despite knowing of Priyanka’s deteriorating mental state.
He was later released on $30,000 bail while Priyanka faces life in prison or the death penalty if convicted.
